Peter Alleblas Profile

Hello I am Peter and in 2009 I made my first real travels, The first travel was to Ecuador and when I came home I decided to travel 3 weeks more in my own country, The Netherlands. I discovered that I never visit a World Heritage Site in The Netherlands..... I visit them all in 3 weeks and the same I did with Belgium in the summer of 2009. Slowly I liked it more and more :-) I marked the places I visit and I was happily surprised when I found this site. So...I was not the only one that visit this kind of sites. Also I read a lot nice reviews here which helped me a lot by preparing a trip.

Update July 2018: The past years I was very busy with other things in life, my health !  So I did not travel a  lot but I not forget my passion. It is still dificult for me to make long/far away travels. This year I can only make small daytrips.  I hope I can visit all my missing sites (WHS/Tentative) in The Netherlands and Belgium this year.

Update March 2019: Finally after many years and many daytrips to Belgium I visited all WHS and TWHS in Belgium. Also I was able to visit the 4 WHS in London with the train. My next travelplan is to visit all sites in Germany.

Update June 2019: I visited this month a little part of Germany, I visited in Denmark all my missing sites. In Norway I visited 6 WHS and 1 TWHS. In Sweden I visited all sites. And I hope I can complete Germany in the upcoming months.

Update september 2019:

Due to personal circumstances I will not be able to complete my goal to visit all of the WHS sites. My hope is that other WHS travellers will complete that goal.

Greetings from Peter Alleblas, the Netherlands

Le tronçon Bavay-Tongres de la chaussée romaine Boulogne-Cologne (T)

Le tronçon Bavay-Tongres de la chaussée romaine Boulogne-Cologne (T)

From the 16 TWHS in Belgium I had only 1 left to visit. The name of that TWHS is: Le tronçon Bavay-Tongres de la chaussée romaine Boulogne-Cologne situe sur le territoire de la Région wallonne. With the translator I understood it a little bit more:  The Bavay-Tongeren section of the Boulogne-Cologne Roman road lies on the territory of the Walloon Region.

OK it is a part of a road between Bavay and Tongeren. I know there are more Tentative sites where I asked myself: How can I visit this site and what is there to see ?   And this is also a strange site. After reading more about the road I saw that the road still exist. It is de N69 (high)way (Chaussée Romaine).

Kew Gardens

Kew Gardens

In March 2019 I visited the four WHS in London. Because it is almost imposible to visit some WHS without online ticket/reservation (Westminster Parliament and Abbey) , I decided to buy all my tickets in advance, also Kew Gardens. The advantage is that I saved some pounds with every ticket in expensive London and I walked several times directly inside after scanning the ticket.

Kew Gardens is easy to reach with the underground. From the VERY busy King Cross Station I went in 40 minuts to Kew Gardens Station. From there it is a walk of less then 5 minuts to the Victoria entrance (gate). I was there at 9.45 AM and I was  the first tourist waiting. Slowly more people joined me and at 10 AM the gate opened

Hoge Kempen (T)

Hoge Kempen (T)

The last week of february it feeled like spring in The Netherlands. That was for me a good opportunity to visit Hoge Kempen National Parc. For me it was “only” 2.5 hours driving from home. There are 6 locations to enter the parc. I choose for Mechelse Heide and Connecterra. At 10.30 AM I arrived at the little parking Mechelse Heide, I thought I am the only one there, but the opposite was true, the parking was almost full. A lot of people where hiking and cycling in the surroundings. I decided to hike with my parents the most simple trail, the blue route. After the pleasant hike I drove 6 km north to the site Connecterra where the visitor center is from the Hoge Kempen. Very close to the entrance of Connecterra there is a huge shopping place (Maasmechelen Village)

Voormalige Nazorgkolonie en Sanatorium Zonnestraal (T)

Voormalige Nazorgkolonie en Sanatorium Zonnestraal (T)

On a beautiful and sunny day in june 2018 I visited Sanatorium Zonnestraal. From my home to this site it is only a hour driving for me, so I decided to go with my car. With public transport (train/bus) it is also posible to visit this site, there is a busstop on the estate.

Sanatorium Zonnestraal was build in the years 1928-1931. The architect was Jan Duiker. The estate is almost 120 hectare and the original sanatorium contains 3 large buildings and some smaller buildings. The years after 1931 they build a lot more on the estate. There is a trail (5km) on the estate and so I hiked along all the buildings.

Provins

Provins

On a sunny day in August 2011 I visited the medieval town Provins. I parked my car in front of the tourist office. Fortunately there where some places left in the shadow. Outside the tourist office I saw that the tourist train was waiting for passengers. Of course I decided to walk, but my first impression was good, a beautiful tourist office, free toilets, a lot of information available and a little train ! In 5 minuts I walked to fortified wall and I made some nice photos of the wall and the gate. I saw that it was possible to climb the wall a little bit, but that I was for later. First I walked slowly to the center of the town. Now I saw a little bit more tourists, but in general it was quiet
